Alon Rosin

Managing Director and Head of US Institutional Equity Derivatives

Alon Rosin is a finance professional with more than 29 years of experience across institutional trading, derivatives strategy, portfolio management, and client advisory. He currently serves as Managing Director and Head of US Institutional Equity Derivatives at Oppenheimer & Co., where he leads the firm’s institutional equity derivatives business and works with buy-side clients on listed equity option strategies and cross-asset solutions.

Throughout his career, Rosin has maintained experience on both sides of the institutional investment industry. He has worked in hedge funds as a portfolio manager and senior trader, and has also spent nearly 18 years leading institutional sales and derivatives businesses on Wall Street. This combination has given him insight into how institutional investors approach risk, market positioning, liquidity, and volatility.

Education and Early Career

Rosin graduated Cum Laude from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1997. Before completing his degree, he was recognized on the Dean’s List in 1995 and 1996. After graduation, he began his professional career by joining the Sales & Trading training program at Salomon Brothers, which later merged into Citigroup.

His early experience in institutional markets introduced him to a fast-moving financial environment where analysis, decision-making, and risk awareness were essential. These experiences helped establish the foundation for his future work in trading, portfolio management, and institutional client relationships.

Experience Across Buy Side and Sell Side

Rosin’s career has been shaped by experience on both the buy side and sell side of financial markets. During his time on the buy side, he worked as a portfolio manager and senior trader at firms including J. Goldman & Co. and Diamondback Capital. These roles required direct responsibility for investment decisions, risk management, and the evaluation of market opportunities.

Working within hedge funds gave Rosin a practical understanding of the challenges institutional investors face when managing capital, responding to market changes, and making decisions under pressure. This perspective later supported his work with institutional clients on the sell side, where he approached relationships with an understanding of their broader investment objectives.

Before joining Oppenheimer, Rosin served as Head of Institutional Sales for Derivatives & Equities, The Americas at BGC Partners. In this role, he worked with institutional investors across derivatives and equity markets while helping expand the firm’s institutional trading presence.

Leadership at Oppenheimer & Co.

At Oppenheimer, Alon Rosin has focused on developing the firm’s institutional derivatives capabilities and strengthening relationships with buy-side clients. As Managing Director and Head of US Institutional Equity Derivatives, he works with institutions to manage exposure, evaluate volatility, and implement listed options strategies across different market conditions.

During his tenure, Rosin co-led the acquisition of Guggenheim’s options desk. The integration added nine professionals to his team, bringing the group to approximately 20 members. This development represented an important step in expanding Oppenheimer’s institutional equity derivatives platform.

Rosin has also gained attention for his market observations during periods of significant volatility. In April 2025, he drew attention by identifying an apparent market bottom amid extreme volatility. He advised investors to “cover shorts” at what would become the DJT “Tariff Tantrum” low in stock prices. The view reflected his experience navigating challenging market environments and evaluating opportunities amid uncertainty.

Community Involvement and Personal Interests

Outside of finance, Rosin has dedicated time to charitable and community initiatives for the past 15 years. He has supported various charities, events, and philanthropic efforts. During a recent charity poker event benefiting Hillel programs, he donated $21,000 and placed second in the tournament.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, Rosin enjoys activities including golf, tennis, padel, skiing, and international travel. He values personal relationships and maintains connections with people beyond professional interactions. His approach combines competitiveness with an appreciation for collaboration and long-term relationships.

A Career Built on Market Experience

What distinguishes Alon Rosin’s career is the perspective gained from working through multiple market cycles while operating across both sides of institutional investing. His experience as a hedge fund professional, institutional sales leader, and derivatives executive has provided him with a broad understanding of market behavior and investor needs.

Today, Rosin continues to lead Oppenheimer’s US Institutional Equity Derivatives business while helping institutional clients navigate changing market conditions. He also remains focused on developing a strong team and building long-term capabilities within the firm’s institutional derivatives platform.
